5 Sessions – SATURDAY MORNINGS, 9am to 12pm AND WEDNESDAY EVENINGS, 6pm to 9pm. May 19, 22, 25, 29, June 16. There is a hiatus between class 4 (May 29) and 5 (June 16) to bisque fire your pieces. Last class (5) will be a glazing session.
This 5 week course will start you on your journey to becoming a potter. You will learn clay preparation, tools, centring clay, opening a vessel, control of the clay on the wheel and basic finishing of your piece. This course will reinforce these basic skills with the aim to throw a perfect cylinder which is the beginning of most wheel projects. Maximum 5 pieces will be saved and fired.
Good studio practices and solid technique will give you the confidence to come in and practice throwing independently.
This class is a pre-requisite for Clay 2, followed by Clay 3. After Clay 3 you will be eligible for open studio.
