Brittany Jones
BEADING + TEXTILES
Brittany Jones is Anishinaabe from Neyaashiinigmiing First Nation. She is a mother of two, a lover of nature, and a craftsperson. She works with beads, leather, porcupine quills, birch bark, caribou hair, and fabric to create jewellery, moccasins, mittens, medallions, and framed art. She made her first pair of beaded earrings when she was ten years old, under her mother’s instruction. It wasn’t until she made a pair of beaded vamps for the Walking With Our Sisters project ten years ago that she really developed a passion for beading. After a few years of honing her craft, she began facilitating workshops in her community and surrounding area. Brittany believes that if you have traditional knowledge that was passed on to you, you have an obligation to teach and share that knowledge with others.
